Minneapolis Council Members, After Voting To Defund Police Hire In Private Security

In an ironic move that should surprise no one, after voting to defund and disband the Minneapolis police, the council members, due to death threats, have turned around and hired in their own private security details at the cost of $4,500 a day.

Not to mention the obvious problems, this security force is not given the authority the police are, there is also the case of hypocrisy, the council demands they receive protection while stripping away the same rights from the citizens. Maybe it is time for the citizens, the law-abiding ones this time, to go out to the streets, demand that the council members have the same security they are giving to their citizens, which is none

Several Minneapolis City Council members who have received death threats following their calls to defund the police after the death of George Floyd have been assigned private security details — reportedly costing the city $4,500 a day in taxpayer dollars.

These council members, who are demanding special protection in the same period, are working to strip the protection the police give to the city. It is time the city leadership starts being offered the equal protection that everyone else is. If this was done across the nation, one has to wonder how many of these city leaders would be happy with this if they knew their votes would affect them personally?

A spokesperson for Minneapolis Police told FOX 9 the department does not have any recent police reports of threats against city council members. It is possible a report could have been filed confidentially.

Jenkins said she has not reported the threats to Minneapolis Police because she has been preoccupied with the dual crisis of the “global pandemic and global uprising” over the killing of George Floyd.

Jenkins said the threats have attacked her ethnicity, gender identity, and sexuality.

The security detail is being provided by two firms, Aegis and BelCom.

Maybe the question should be asked, if this is what the city council is demanding for themselves, are they going to give the same right to other citizens after the police are gone? And will they pay for it as the council members are demanding the city do?

City Coordinator Mark Ruff and City Council President Lisa Bender ‘s offices were contacted, for some odd reason, they will not return calls that are inquiring over who authorized this.

It is time that our civil leaders, who are making laws, creating the living environment they demand the people they represent live under, we should start demanding they live in the same exact conditions. I would say this should apply to officials in a city, county, state, and federal levels.
